      1. Croatia beat Latvia 2-0 in Riga. This is how the group looks following that match.

      2. MATCH SUMMARY

There was huge disappointment after the full-time whistle in Yerevan as the 1-1 draw with Armenia takes qualification for EURO 2024 out of Cymru’s hands giving advantage back to Croatia.

Cymru got off to a terrible start as they succumbed to early Armenia pressure and when the defence failed to close Lucas Zelarayán down from a cleared corner kick, he was given space to fire low into the net to give his team the lead.

Rob Page’s team did manage to settle after this setback but were struggling to generate any clear cut chances. David Brooks, Neco Williams, Kieffer Moore and Wilson all had efforts but nothing really troubled Ognjen Chancharevich too much in the Armenia goals.

Nevertheless, Cymru were deserving of their equaliser before the half-time interval. A long throw from Connor Roberts towards the near post saw Joe Rodon challenge Nair Tiknizyan for the ball. Under Rodon’s pressure, Tiknizyan headed the ball into his own net.

It seemed to be the perfect time to score with Cymru expected to apply the pressure in the second half. However, with both teams making substitutions and changing their formations to go more attacking, the game opened up but it was Armenia who had the best chances to win the game.

One of those chances saw Vahan Bichakhchyan strike the underside of the crossbar from the edge of the box. Luckily for Cymru, the ball bounced back the right side of the goal line and the defence were able to clear.

In added time Danny Ward was forced into producing a fine save to deny Edgar Sevikyan after a Cymru attack broke down. The same player could have won it with nearly the last kick of the match as the ball broke for him in the box but he scuffed his effort wide.

The result means that automatic qualification for EURO 2024, whilst not an impossibility, is now unlikely for Cymru should Croatia beat Latvia in their match on Saturday evening (5pm).

If Croatia were to lose or draw with Latvia, a win for Cymru against Türkiye on Tuesday (21 November) would see them take second spot. Rob Page will be without Chris Mepham for that match following his booking against Armenia.

      3. Cymru remain second in their qualifying group but a win for Croatia against Latvia will put them in the driving seat.

      4. FULL-TIME: ARMENIA 1-1 CYMRU

The result neither team wanted. EURO 2024 qualification is now out of Cymru’s hands with advantage swinging back to Croatia, who play Latvia at 17:00.

      5. Armenia having the chances here but when Sevikyan has an opportunity to win it he scuffs his shot wide.

      6. The ball from the Armenian corner nearly goes directly into the goal but Ward pushes away for another corner.

      7. There will be 5 minutes of added time.

      8. Ward pulls off a fantastic save to deny a strike from Sevikyan after a Cymru attack broke down.

      9. A last ditch clearance in the box denies Cymru a chance to score.

      10. Cymru free kick is sent into the box where Ampadu heads the ball but sees his chance saved.

      11. Moore goes close with a header but Chancharevich makes the save.

      12. Armenia go close again as Cymru surrender possession. Spertsyan’s shot is deflected over the back for a corner. From the resulting corner, Armenia create danger again but Cymru somehow manage to survive the threat.

      13. It’s end-to-end in Yerevan as both teams throw everything at each other.

      14. Yellow card

        JAMES Jordan Anthony

      15. Substitution

BROADHEAD Nathan Paul replaces ROBERTS Connor Richard John

      16. A big 15 minutes coming up for both Armenia and Cymru.

      17. Williams cuts inside from the left to strike but skies the ball wide.

      18. Rodon makes a last ditch clearance as Armenia flood the box after ball is crossed from the right.

      19. Armenia have made several substitutions. They have to win to maintain any chance of qualifying for EURO 2024.

      20. Substitution

        ARTUR MIRANYAN replaces GRANT-LEON RANOS

      21. Substitution

        EDGAR SEVIKYAN replaces VAHAN BICHAKHCHYAN

      22. Dan James passes to Jordan James who unleashes a shot from outside the box. The effort was decent and was nearly spilled by Chancharevich in the Armenia goals.

      23. Substitution

JAMES Daniel Owen replaces WILSON Harry

      24. Substitution

        HOVHANNES HARUTYUNYAN replaces VAHAN BICHAKHCHYAN

      25. Bichakhchyan received the ball on the edge of the box from where he shoots and his strike hits the underneath of the crossbar and comes out. Armenia will feel they should be in lead here.

      26. Yellow card

        AMPADU Ethan

      27. Yellow card

        VARAZDAT HAROYAN

      28. Cymru counter-attack but Wilson is fouled in the middle of the pitch by Haroyan. That looked like it was going to be a significant attack with plenty of space ahead.

      29. Armenia are enjoying some pressure here. The Cymru defence needs to keep them at bay.

      30. Substitution

        JOHNSON Brennan replaces BROOKS David

      31. KICK OFF – SECOND HALF

The game in Yerevan is back underway. A big half coming up for both teams.

      32. Own goal

        NAIR TIKNIZYAN

      33. HALF-TIME: ARMENIA 1-1 CYMRU

Cymru left it late to equalise in the first half after Armenia had taken an early lead through Zelarayán. From a long Roberts throw in added time Rodon appeared to get the touch to equalise at the perfect time.

Rob Page will be disappointed in the way Cymru started the match by allowing themselves to succumb to Armenia’s early pressure. When the defence failed to close Zelarayán down from a cleared corner kick, he was given space shoot Armenia into the lead.

Cymru settled and created chances for themselves and deserved their equaliser when it came.

      34. GÓL!!!! ARMENIA 1-1 CYMRU

Cymru find the back of the net after a long throw from Roberts. Under Rodon’s challenge it appears that Rodon meets it to head it into the net.

      35. Goal

        RODON Joseph

      36. As the corner comes into the Armenia box, the referee blows for a foul and awards the home team a free kick.

      37. Some nice play from Cymru presents a good chance to equalise but Wilson’s shot from about 12-yards is pushed away by Chancharevich.

      38. Yellow card

        MEPHAM Christopher

      39. Mepham has been booked for a foul on Zelarayân. That means the Cymru defender will be suspended against Türkiye on Tuesday.

      40. It’s a 55% to 45% possession split to Armenia so far in this first half. Cymru need more of the ball to create more chances to find their way back into the game.

      41. The line-up.

      42. Moore heads at goal from Williams’ cross into the box but his effort goes wide.

      43. Bichakhchyan skims the side-netting with his strike from distance after he’s allowed space to run deep into the Cymru half of the pitch.

      44. Neco Williams sees his shot deflected wide. The ball had broken for Moore before he set up the winger for his strike.

      45. Cymru are starting to see more of the ball at the Vazgen Sargsyan Republican Stadium.

      46. Brooks goes close from inside the box with a shot that shaves the top of the crossbar. Good response from Cymru.

      47. Goal

        LUCAS ZELARAYÁN

      48. GOAL! ARMENIA 1-0 CYMRU

After the corner was cleared to the edge of the box it was picked up by Zelarayán who was provided with space to strike low into the net. A disastrous start for Cymru in a match they must win.

      49. Goal

      55. Where can you watch the match?

        Answer:

      56. Here’s the Cymru Starting XI for the match against Armenia.

      57. Just over an hour to go until kick off.

      58. For gêm 706, Cymru will play in white.

      59. Here are the permutations for today’s matches:

Türkiye have already qualified for UEFA EURO 2024
Cymru will qualify if they can beat Armenia in Yerevan and Croatia lose to Latvia.
Croatia will not be able to qualify through the group if they lose to Latvia and Cymru win.
Armenia will not be able to finish in the top two if they lose to Cymru. They will suffer the same fate if they draw and Croatia win.
Latvia are unable to qualify but can play a part in who reaches UEFA EURO 2024.

If Croatia were to win in Latvia on Saturday and beat Armenia at home on Tuesday, they would be unable to finish above Cymru if they win their matches against Armenia and Türkiye due to an inferior head-to-head record.

      60. Did you know that Cymru have never beaten Armenia? Cymru have drawn twice against Armenia and were defeated 4-2 in Cardiff back in June during this qualifying campaign.

Records are made to be broken.

      61. Team news will be coming soon from the Vazgen Sargsyan Republican Stadium in Yerevan.

      62. The Cymru squad have been getting familiar with their surroundings at the Vazgen Sargsyan Republican Stadium in Yerevan.

      63. Benoît Bastien will take charge of the EURO 2024 qualifier between Armenia and Cymru in Yerevan on Saturday.

The 40-year old French official has been a FIFA referee since 2014 and was the man in the middle for the 1-1 draw between Cymru and Belgium in the UEFA Nations League last year (below). Bastien was also the referee for the international friendly between Cymru and the Netherlands in Cardiff back in November 2015.

Hicham Zakrani and Aurélien Berthomieu are the assistant referees and Jérémie Pignard will be the fourth official. Benoît Millot is the VAR and he will be assisted by Bastien Dechepy. All of the officials are from France.

      64. Cymru fans, through the Gól charity, do fantastic work wherever they visit.

      65. All smiles as the players arrive in Yerevan for Saturday’s match against Armenia.

      66. Harry Wilson was the hero for Cymru last month when he scored both goals in the 2-1 win over Croatia on what was his 50th international appearance. Manager Rob Page spoke to the media earlier this week and praised the Fulham striker.

“He has stepped up to the plate,” said Page. “I’m so pleased for him because he’s not just a good player, he’s an absolute diamond of a kid. I said to the young lads up in Wrexham for the Gibraltar game: ‘Just watch him warm up’. Everything he does is to the nth degree.

“He’s the nicest fella you will ever meet off the pitch, but when he crosses that line he’s a model example of what you would want a modern footballer to look like. You can see why he has had the career he has and why he is playing in the Premier League, and why he is now getting the plaudits that he has got for us.

“Go back about 12 months ago, he would turn up and expect to be part of the squad, or if he started he would be substituted on the hour mark. But the mentality has changed now. He’s playing in the Premier League, scoring goals and creating chances.

“When he plays for us now he’s one of the main men and showed that in the last game. I don’t expect him to come in and just accept playing for 55, 60 minutes. I want him to have that mentality that he is one of our top players now and he is going to go and win games for us.”

      67. The emergence of teenage midfielder Jordan James has been a huge positive from the current qualifying campaign,

James (below) put in an impressive performance in the 2-1 win over Croatia last month and reflected on the occasion when he spoke to the media this week. “I don’t think it gets much better than that, but we’ve still got a job to do. On paper, that was the toughest game in the group, but we’re not going to take the next two games lightly.

“It was probably the best night of my life. Seeing my family in the crowd and how proud they were, it was a massive win for the country. Hopefully we can do the same in the next two games.

“We know what it means to the country to get to these big tournaments, so that’s our focus and hopefully we can do that.”

      68. Armenia claimed a shock 4-2 win against Cymru in Cardiff back in June (below) in what was only the third meeting between the two nations. Dan James and Harry Wilson were on target for the home side while striker Kieffer Moore was sent off.

The previous two fixtures ended in draws and came during the 2002 FIFA World Cup qualifying campaign. The first match took place in Yerevan in March 2001 when a brace from John Hartson for Mark Hughes’ side could only earn a point as the match finished 2-2.

The return match in Cardiff finished in 0-0 in a qualifying campaign that saw Cymru claim just one victory in ten games and only Armenia would finish below them in the group.

      69. The Cymru squad trained against the elements on Monday as manager Rob Page and his players set their attentions firmly on Saturday’s match against Armenia.

Niall Huggins and Jay DaSilva are two new faces in the squad for the Group D double-header which will decide if Cymru qualify for EURO 2024 automatically or not. Meanwhile, Ben Davies will again captain the side in the absence of the injured Aaron Ramsey.

“We’ve got a good group here,” said Davies (below) on Monday. “We know what’s expected of us and we’re not looking too far ahead. We can’t take our eyes off the fact that each game is important in itself. If we don’t get a result in Armenia, the Turkey one is kind of irrelevant so it’s important our sole focus is on Armenia.”

      70. Cymru head into their final two Group D qualifiers this week in the knowledge that automatic qualification for EURO 2024 is in their own hands.

Rob Page’s need six points to guarantee their place in Germany next summer as they prepare to take on Armenia in Yerevan on Saturday before hosting Türkiye in Cardiff on Tuesday night.

Armenia and Croatia also remain in contention for automatic qualification, but Cymru have the head-to-head advantage over Croatia as all three teams head into their final two games of the campaign.

Meanwhile, Türkiye have already booked their place at EURO 2024 with just one game remaining. Here is the latest Group D table heading into this final week of qualifiers.
