        17. Half-time verdict: A decent opening half from Cymru against a Portuguese side who are clearly dangerous in the final third. Chances have been limited for Grainger’s side but they have defended resolutely and have been just one good ball away from creating an opportunity at the other end. A few small tweaks to further restrict the home side and Cymru will continue to be very much in this close and competitive match.

          Portugal suffered a 2-1 friendly defeat to Japan on Friday, ending a run of eight consecutive victories for the side which included success in the FIFA Women’s World Cup play-offs. The defeat was their first since they were eliminated from the EURO finals at the group stages last summer with Ana Capeta scoring what would prove to be the consolation goal.

          Meanwhile, Cymru duo Carrie Jones and Lily Woodham have not travelled to Portugal due to injury. Both players missed the 4-1 win over Northern Ireland and have returned to Leicester City and Reading respectively.

          The Cymru squad completed their preparations on Monday and now take on Portugal in their second friendly of this international camp.

          Last Thursday, goals from Jess Fishlock, Angharad James, Hannah Cain and Rachel Rowe earned Gemma Grainger’s side a 4-1 win over Northern Ireland at the Cardiff City Stadium, and the manager is hoping for more of the same from her side on Tuesday.

          “Portugal have a clear playing style and they will be a great test for us,” said Grainger to BBC Sport Wales. “They are a great team, they haven’t looked back since they got into the European Championships last summer. They have built upon that and their qualification for the World Cup is a sign of that.

          “It has been a really good camp so far, it’s exactly what we wanted. Thursday’s game was a really positive performance, the gameplan was executed really well by the players. We want to make sure we are a team that creates chances and converts them. The standard has been set now in terms of conversion rate, and we will continue to work on creating those chances.”
