Briton Ferry Llansawel and Cardiff City Reach FAW Women’s Cup Final

Briton Ferry Llansawel and Cardiff City will meet in the 2023 FAW Women’s Cup final following their semi-final victories on Sunday.

Briton Ferry will fly the flag for the second tier in this season’s final after earning an impressive 3-0 win over Genero Adran Premier side Aberystwyth Town.

Ferry took the lead at Richmond Park when Alexsie Clayton’s corner caused problems in the area and Lowri Baker was on hand to volley the Genero Adran South leaders in front after 19 minutes.

Laura May-Walkley’s clever backheel helped them double their lead minutes into the second half as Megan Kearle chipped home the second.

And Rhys James’ side ensured there would be no way back for the Seasiders with Fleur Jenkins adding a third on the hour mark after getting on the end of a loose ball.

The defending FAW Women’s Cup champions Cardiff City were without six players due to international call-ups with Cymru’s intermediate teams but did enough to earn their place in the final for the fifth time.

The Bluebirds took the lead just after the half-hour mark at Penydarren Park when Seren Watkins’ pin-point cross found Rhianne Oakley, who fired beyond Amelia Forkings to put her side in the lead at the break.

Danielle Broadhurst came close to doubling their lead after the restart but saw her effort come back off the woodwork, although it wasn’t long until City got their second.

Oakley sealed her brace in the 61st minute by prodding home Danielle Green’s cross as the Bluebirds earned their third win of the season over the Archers.
