Cymru to Face Finland in International Challenge Match

Gemma Grainger’s Cymru will take on Finland in an international challenge match on Saturday 12 November (KO 18:30 GMT) in the Pinatar Arena in Spain.

The two sides last met in the 2018 Cyprus Cup, where a Kayleigh Green goal secured the 1-0 win for Cymru.

The time away in Spain will be an opportunity to reflect on the recent 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup qualifying campaign, where a last-minute loss in extra time to Switzerland in the Play-Off final stopped Cymru’s path to reach a major tournament for the first time.

The match will also start Cymru’s preparations for the UEFA Women’s EURO 2025 qualifying campaign, with the draw for the Qualifying Round due to take place in early 2023.

We would like to thank Wrexham AFC for initially preparing to host our friendly in November had the match been played at home, and we look forward to visiting the Racecourse Ground at a future international window for what would be Cymru’s first game there since the 2-0 win against Estonia in March 2020.

“The camp is another opportunity to take a step forward in our development as a team.

Gemma Grainger, Cymru Manager

“It gives us a chance to come together and review the World Cup qualification campaign, along with playing against another nation that competed in the European Championships in the summer.”
