Level Playing Field’s Unite for Access Campaign

The Football Association of Wales (FAW) are proud to be supporting the Level Playing Field’s Unite for Access campaign which is an annual period of inspiration and celebration of good access and inclusion at sports venues.

The campaign will run this year from Saturday 25 February to Sunday 12 March and aims to showcase the good work being done by clubs to improve accessibility and inclusion in sport.

Level Playing Field is a sports charity that acts as a campaigning and advisory organisation for disabled sports fans. The charity offers a range of initiatives and services for disabled sports fans including:

  • The Level Playing Field podcast – A monthly podcast series with exclusive guests from across the sporting community.
  • Have Your Say – Asking disabled fans for their feedback, whether it’s positive or negative, from their experience at live sports events
  • Club Pages – Level Playing Field offer accessibility information for all clubs from the Premier League, EFL, and National League to help disabled supporters plan and enjoy their matchday. This will soon include accessibility information for clubs across the Welsh domestic leagues.

Working alongside Cardiff City FC, the FAW are proud to have launched several services over the past year at the Cymru national team matches to improve the experiences of its disabled supporters.

During Cymru fixtures, fans can access free audio descriptive commentary, where trained audio describers will keep up with play to the second to ensure listeners know exactly where the ball is and what is happening on the pitch.

Cymru fans can also book into the stadium’s sensory room, which has been designed to accommodate the needs of children and young people with additional sensory needs or sensitivities.

Cardiff City FC, its stadia and the Cardiff City Foundation have recently been awarded the “Level Playing Field’s Centre of Excellence Award”. The “Level Playing Field Centre of Excellence Award” is presented to sporting venues that demonstrate the highest access and inclusion standards in accommodating disabled spectators and visitors on match (or event) and non-match days. Cardiff City Stadium are now the first Stadium in Wales to have received this award, whilst Cardiff City FC are the sixth club in the UK to be awarded the accolade for their fantastic work in this area.
