Cymru manager Rob Page has asked the Red Wall to bring the noise to the Ahmad Bin Ali stadium, home of Cymru’s three 2022 FIFA World Cup Group B matches, and hopefully into the knockout stages at other venues following a visit to Qatar this week.
Page and a delegation from the FAW visited the host country for a workshop hosted by FIFA, with Cymru taking part in the tournament for the first time since 1958. During the visit, the FAW have been able to confirm their team hotel at the Delta Hotel by Marriott in the centre of Doha, and a training base at the Al-Sadd training centre. The training centre will provide preparation areas for the squad and a gym, as well as a media centre which can accommodate 100 press members and photographers.
As well as confirming locations, Rob Page and the delegation attended several workshop sessions regarding logistics, media and technical matters. Following the visit, Page said “It’s the first opportunity to come over and confirm our team hotel and training base. Being out here and experiencing the standards of facilities on offer has made us look forward to November even more. We’re extremely proud to be here, and I’m pleased for the senior players who had a World Cup missing on their CV. They deserve to be here and I’m sure they will make our fans proud, who will make the stadium feel like home come matchday.”
Cymru’s World Cup campaign will begin on the opening day of the tournament against the USA on Monday 21 November, before taking on Iran (Friday 25 November) and England (Tuesday 29 November) in the other two Group B matches.
